NextEnergy Group tackles fuel poverty in the UK with national energy action

NextEnergy Group recently spent one day volunteering with the national charity working to end fuel poverty in the United Kingdom, National Energy Action (“NEA”)

NextEnergy Group inaugurated its Early Careers Programme (“ECP”) in September 2022. This two-year Program provides an opportunity for those with little or no professional experience to launch their careers in renewable energy. In alignment with NextEnergy Group’s Core Value to Be Responsible, the 2022 ECP participants recently spent one day volunteering with the national charity working to end fuel poverty in the United Kingdom, National Energy Action (“NEA”).

National Energy Action is running a Winter Warmth Support program to help its most vulnerable service users struggling from the energy crisis. Each pack contains small, household energy efficiency items which can be used to stay a little warmer at home during the cold winter months. Examples include thermos flasks, radiator panels, and under-door draught excluders. Each pack also includes information about how and where to get help with energy costs, and useful tips on energy efficiency.

NextEnergy Group’s 10 ECP participants travelled to NEA’s Headquarters in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England where they assembled 106 support packs in one day. The packs have been distributed to vulnerable households across Cumbria, the Midlands, the South East and South West of England, and the recipients were NEA’s existing service users which the charity identified as needing additional support.

Following the event, one of our volunteers wrote, “I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for the opportunity to volunteer at the NEA event. It was a great experience, and I was honoured to be part of it. I enjoyed working with the team and I hope that I was able to make a positive contribution. I believe that volunteering is one of the most fulfilling experiences one can have, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have done it with our organization.”

NextEnergy Foundation – NextEnergy Group’s international charity which operates at the nexus between poverty alleviation and energy access – is also addressing fuel poverty. Please refer to the projects with Depher CIC and Banco dell’Energia for more information.

The Winter Warmth Support packs assembled by the ECP participants have amplified the Group’s impact in the current energy crisis.
